Karin studied Romance Languages & Cultures in Groningen and moved to Barcelona after completing her studies in 1994. She then worked for more than 20 years as a consular employee at the Dutch consulate in Barcelona. After the consulate was closed, she worked for a number of years at a Dutch law firm and since August 2019 she has been working as a translator at the secretariat of the Barcelona office.
Karin is registered as a sworn translator in the Register of sworn interpreters and translators in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Rbtv) and specializes in translating legal texts. Legal translation is a challenge for her because it requires knowledge of both the Spanish and Dutch legal systems and the legal terminology of the two countries.
It is therefore important for a legal translator that he / she not only understands what it says, but also why it is there. According to Karin it takes a lot of precision and creativity to perform a good translation, but on the other hand it also gives a lot of satisfaction when it is completed.
She regularly follows courses to keep her knowledge up to date.
In her spare time she likes to travel and sport!
